Today I am 33w5d pregnant with our twin girls! This week has definitely been a week for the books. On Sunday, we had a wonderful little get together with some of my closest friends and family to celebrate the arrival of the girls. My best friend Katie, (along with my sister Shannon) were kind enough to host this beautiful event. My favorite part was getting to spend face to face time with my friends and family. I've been cooped up in the house and bed for so long that it felt really great to see everyone and hear whats going on in THEIR lives. Despite my request for "no gifts" my family and friends have filled our nursery with pretty little things for Nova & Bria. We are very appreciative and overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity. Truly, was not expecting that.
During the party, I got hit with an intense allergy attack. My eyes swelled up, I couldn't stop sneezing, and I was so congested I could barely breathe. I toughed it out but the allergies have been a constant battle this week. One more symptom to add to my ever growing list.
This week also brought a lot of physical challenges for me. My knees have started to ache in a way that I've never felt before. I can hear them creak and crack as I walk. I also started feeling intense pain and pressure in my pubic bone. At my dr appointment on Weds, he confirmed that I have SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction). Basically, It means my ligaments that keep my pelvic bone aligned have loosened- I actually have some separation. It causes severe pain while walking, standing, sitting or rolling over in bed. I feel like I'm falling a part. But I'm dealing with it. I'm just spending even more time in bed. At wednesday's appointment, we also had our second NST (Non Stress Test) on the babies. They both look great, were nice and active, and my contractions are at an acceptable level. The weighed me and I've officially lost a pound! (Better late than never). I've run out of room to eat much. My doctor high fived me for outstanding blood pressure and said he'd see me next week. All in all, a great appointment!
On Friday, I had my growth ultrasound with the MFM. After measuring the girls, I was shocked to learn that Baby A (Nova) is 5lbs 3oz and Baby B (Bria) is 5lbs 1 oz! They were very pleased and told me that an average size for a single baby at this point would be roughly 4 lbs 9 oz! So, the girls are doing great! We could even see that they have full heads of hair already. The tech also said their heads are measuring rather large. I'm not surprised, Ryder had a big head too! They are looking pretty crammed in there. Everyone always asks about the babies positions, so I took the liberty of drawing a diagram to help you see how they are positioned. Disclaimer: Not to scale.
The only thing off in my photo is that Baby B actually has her head resting on Baby A's butt! This just makes me chuckle to think of. How sweet of Nova to serve as a pillow to Bria. After the scan, 3 different MFM's came in to congratulate us on how well we are doing. They mentioned that our pregnancy couldn't be going better if they had written the script themselves. They reminded me that its not common for ID twin pregnancy to progress this well uneventfully for so long. I have one more appointment with them on May 18th. Before I left they said, if we don't see you in 2 weeks.... GOOD LUCK! My jaw dropped. I guess I really could go at anytime! Here's a couple pics of our growing girls:
